Where will social media lead in 2020?

Social media trends to follow

Social media marketing strategy is on the minds of many small business owners. And if it’s not on yours, it should be!

Major platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram are fighting for market shares by tailoring their business models to balance providing better returns to shareholders with improved user experience.

As these platforms evolve, the way you use them for your small business must also change.

Let’s look forward to some ways to promote your social media business in 2020.

Facebook

More than 18 months later, the Federal Trade Commission officially ruled that Cambridge Analytica had deceived Facebook users. The company collected the personal data of millions of Facebook profiles without the consent of the people, and then used them for the purposes of political advertising.

Although Cambridge Analytica went bankrupt soon after the scandal, Facebook continues to work hard to tighten its data access processes and convince people to believe in its new dedicated news platform.

Facebook published Facebook News for a subset of people in the US. This means that while you will still see family and friend posts in the main feed, Facebook News will publish the content of a team of journalists (a Facebook employee).

This year, the company is also focusing on cryptocurrency and establishing its Facebook Pay function. This may mean that your small business may soon include platform sales in your account.

Although the launch of Facebook Watch did not go as expected (only 140 million people watch videos and shows a day, which sounds huge, but does not compare to the total 1.6 billion daily activities of the platform). Still, it looks like Facebook will try again in 2020, so let’s see what that means for video marketing.

What do these changes mean for your social media marketing strategy?

We’ll have to wait and see. The more proprietary content a company creates, the more vendors can compete to stay visible.

Twitter

The company recently announced it will stop running political ads and is updating its global privacy policy to provide users with more information about what information advertisers can get.

We also wonder what design and research company vice president Dantley Davis meant by the recent announcement of a series of changes that could come to the platform as early as next year.

How will this affect how you promote your business on social media?

You could have the ability to restrict who retweets your tweet (which I don’t see a feature that entrepreneurs would use much, we love our retweets!) And the ability to tweet something to a particular group based on their interests.

LinkedIn

Since launching in 2003, LinkedIn has become the world’s largest professional networking platform.

Microsoft acquired the platform for $ 26.2 billion in 2016, and with access to Microsoft resources, we saw updated professional insights and more targeted ads.

We also saw LinkedIn groups coming back.

The LinkedIn group allows your business to create a discussion forum related to your industry. This gives you the opportunity to start a special like-minded interest group that is specific to your product, service and / or expertise.

Groups also provide excellent visibility to your business, as each member who is part of your group will display your logo on their profile. Group owners also now have the ability to publish different types of media such as pictures and videos, and instant notifications allow for real-time conversations.

The Executive Suite has over 300,000 members and brings together executives through a web series, hands-on tips, and discussion boards.

What do LinkedIn groups mean for your small business?

Hopefully, a better way to foster a sense of community, find candidates for vacancies, and gain brand visibility are just a few.

Instagram

You may remember that Instagram tested the removal of likes in several countries, including Australia, Japan, Italy and Ireland. Likes aren’t gone – in the U.S. and Canada, you can still see similar items in your own photos and videos – just not others.

So where did this come from? Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, has long been dealing with people who use hacking and workarounds. They come mostly from bots and unscrupulous companies that manipulate the app to make themselves or other users more popular than they actually are. So, this is an attempt to make Instagram more authentic.

Instagram says “We hope this test will remove the pressure on how many likes the post will get, so you can focus on sharing the things you love.”

While many entrepreneurs and small entrepreneurs are good at it, influencers and video marketing agencies are not.

How can I show companies how popular they are? How will he show engagement?

But for the average small business owner who doesn’t buy likes or doesn’t play the system with bots, this might be a good thing.

If your social media marketing strategy includes interesting content and if you’re happy to focus on comments and increased followers, you’ll be fine.

Although IGTV started slowly, it is now considered one of the biggest trends on social media. After Instagram announced earlier this year that Instagram would allow unicameral views of IGTV videos on the main Instagram feed, users (and companies) began to notice it.

Unlike other Instagram videos, IGTV videos can last 10-60 minutes. This offers a great opportunity for video marketing for interviews, behind-the-scenes features and more.

Since we can now add landscape-oriented videos as well, I added my Business Edge Show videos that have achieved great power.

These are just a few of the changes you can expect on major platforms this year. I’m sure there will be many more of them over the years, because things always change!

To effectively promote your business on social networks in 2020, it is necessary not only to understand the trends on social networks, but also to accept them.

If the challenge is to stay at the top of social media, consider hiring an agency that can create strategies that will be specific to your needs and goals on social media, so you can focus on building your business.
